Druminator
This is going to be the big one of the year. The area fished will be
Fort Fisher. This will provide lots of choices for fishing condition
and styles. There are flatwater areas, rock jetties, rock breaks,
deep holes, creeks, bays, surf launch areas, and Sheepshead Rock.
All techniques in this area can produce well; fly fishing, live
bait, or artificials.
This tournament as well as all others are photo-release. Catch your
fish, measure them, and photograph the fish with the ruler. Points
are awarded based on the largest fish per person in each category.
For example, you can be awarded for catching the largest flounder in
two divisions; Largest Flounder and Largest Saltwater. Points are
awarded on honor system until the cameras are developed and checked
for accuracy. Divisions are; Largest Drum, Flounder, Trout, Saltwater (this includes kings, spanish, sharks, etc...)
The times are not final. Starting will be around 6 or 7 and "weigh
in" will be at 2 or 3. Launching will be allowed in any area of the
Fort Fisher recreational area. You can park and launch at the
Federal Point ramp or purchase a 4X4 beach pass ($10 for the day,
$40 for the year) and launch into the creeks or surf.
Prizes range from gift certificates to Tex's Tackle and Hook1 Kayak
Fishing Gear, Pelican cases, lure packages, and accessories. End of
the year prizes are rod and reel combos from Tex's and possibly a
new Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140.
Register at Cape Fear Kayaks on Eastwood Rd. Fees are $20 if you
have your own kayak or $40 if you need to rent a kayak. The
tournaments are a lot of fun and you get to meet plenty of great
people.
