View Full Version : Fishing!

Today was day two of the Reese Boles party, there were like 8 or nine guys on threee big boats and they werent to thrilled with the offshore action so I agreed to take them inshore on the "Fishbones." The bait has been hit or miss and today was a miss, but I had a good report of a boat that did well with Rapalas yesterday so we tried that for a while with no luck. Then we headed down to Dominical in the hopes of finding bait along the way. No luck! It was a beautiful ride though. When we got there we continued trolling with rapalas and were doing pretty good on the houndfish untill I grabbed one wrong and wound up with a new thumb piercing. Luckily I learned a real good technique for hook removal from Fred Feller on the Bobbi Lee. It is starting to stiffen up even now and Im sure I will be in hell tomorrow. anyways back to the fishing. By this time it was getting late so we decided to try one last spot in hopes of redemption. We were trollingour same old repalas when Cooper decided to toss out a blue back wind cheater on an ultralight (bait) rod and WHAM! a nice rooster of around 15lbs. That made the day but we decided to give it another pass and something immediately started smoking out line on one of the rapalas, we were all convinced it was a 30 lb rooster but after an hour battle it turned out to be a Manta ray. Buzz and Cooper are Longtime Virginia beach locals who have promised to show me some of thier trout holes in Lynhaven and I plan on taking them up on it. Thanks Guys!
