View Full Version : Important Message from TuneAFish

TuneAFish
I received an email from a friend with the following message. I checked my computer and as advertised, I had the virus. I am sending the with sincere apologies. The virus is supposed to attach to everyone in my address book and be found on my C drive. Since you are in my address book, you will probably find it in your computer too. The virus (called jdbg.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee Anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by 'messenger' and by address book, whether or not you've sent email to your contacts. Here is how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it.

PLEASE DO THIS ASAP (it will only take a minute)
1. Go to Start, and then click on you "Find" or "Search" option
2. in the folder option, type the name...jdbgm
3. Be sure to search your C drive and all the sub folders and any other drives you may have
4. Click "Find Now"
5 The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe. DO NOT OPEN IT!
6. Go to Edit (on the Menu bar) and choose "Select All" to highlight the file without opening it.
7. Now go to file (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then go to the recycle bin. If you find the virus, you must contact all the people in your Address Book so that they may eradicate the virus from their own address books. To do this:
1. Open a new email message.
2. Click the icon Address Book next to "TO"
3. Highlight every name and add to "BBC"
4. Copy this message and paste.

BE SURE TO EMPTY YOUR RECYCLE BIN

DO NOT DELETE THAT FILE!!

TuneAFish has been taken in a mean hoax. See this link for info: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html

Jdbgmgr.exe is the file to which the hoax refers, and it is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java.

Just go to the following site to check out the authenticity of almost anything from viruses to "faked" pictures! There's almost an limitless supply of information (useless and otherwise) that can be found on the "Urban Legends Reference Pages" at:
http://www.snopes.com/

For info on "Tuna's" so-called virus, click on "Computers," then click on "Computer Viruses" and scroll down to JDBGMGR.EXE (Bear Virus). You'll get your answer....which is (as you now know) it is a HOAX! This one's been going around for over a year now.

Check out the other info on this site.....pretty interesting!
