View Full Version : We better figure it out quickly!
Dog Daze
It seems my political party of choice is still clueless. Instead of finding a charismatic and intelligent candidate to run against Obamasama, we are spending our time drooling over Sarah Palin, and editing old tapes, maiking ourselves look like a horses patut. The sooner we figure out (and admit) that Palin is a novelty with a snowballs chance in hell of beating the incumbant, we can get behind someone who has a chance. Otherwise, we are doomed to 4 more years of ruining the country.
SKD
Don't think Palin will be a factor - she'll be a good campaigner for whoever gets the nod. Too much baggage has been added to her cart and it's getting hard for the elephant to pull. Jindel or Romney might be the picks  but who knows. Hell, even 'ol Newt has put out feelers to check his chances. I think Steele needs replacing too.

We're fortunate that the Dem's are in now.....a lot of the situations Obama finds himself in now were going to happen anyway.....so now it's on his watch and not ours, and he is taking the flak for not magically making it go away. Sadly, too many folks think Uncle Sam has the ability to fix any and all problems....and they get disenchanted when it doesn't happen.....and they start swaying back the other way.....such short memories. We're destined to constantly swing back and forth unfortunately.

Nixon resigned over something that the current administration wouldn't even bother to acknowledge.
Barry Boy, and his staff of goons and thugs, commit more egregious sins, ... before breakfast, ... than anything Nixon ever did.
But that doesn't excuse Nixon.
He should have resigned.
The point is, that the current administration, should go to PRISON.

Excellent point, the main stream media got on Nixon like a blood sucking tick and wouldn’t let go.
If, today the media would put its teeth into the Sestak matter like they did with Watergate Barry Boy would be out on his bum in six months. Or, not society seems to be a lot more accepting of corruption today than it was back in the 70’s…. But, then again the WWII crew still had the reins of government.

The sooner we figure out (and admit) that Palin is a noveltyI agree with this part of your statement.
But would point out, that the current occupant of the Oval office, ... was also a "novelty" candidate, ... with much less experience than Palin.
While I too am uncertain that Palin will be a viable choice for Conservatives, ... I would caution that the "Old Guard" candidates ( that tend to make us old guys comfortable ) have repeatedly proven to be disasters at the polls.
Like it or not, ... America is now dominated by a shallow, poorly educated electorate, ... who will vote for a flavor-of-the-month type candidate.
I wish that wasn't so, ... but I'm afraid that the reality of the situation, is very grim.
I fear the Country is in a "Death Spiral" of Political Corruption and Cynicism, that can only be altered by a violent or cataclysmic event.

As an amateur Historian, I'm particularly aware of certain cyclic changes in our Nation, ... and how they've been facilitated.
In the beginning, we were plagued with a Government that was insensitive to the realities that faced the common man.
But we were loyal to the land of our Fathers, and we humbly and peacefully asked the Government to redress the problems, ... but they didn't want to hear about it .....
So, a large segment of the people griped and grumbled and held public demonstrations, ... but the Government still didn't take the problem seriously.
Eventually, our collective frustration with an arrogant and dismissive Government, ... lead to open violence, and War.
And a Nation was born.
A Nation where everyone was guaranteed an equal say in how the Country was Governed, ... and an equal responsibility for the maintenance of basic Freedoms.
Going forward from that time, ... there were periods of prosperity, and periods of recession.
Many issues arose, and were resolved through the normal process by which we have chosen to Govern ourselves.
But eventually, a series of issues, and events came to pass, that couldn't be resolved through the channels that were available to us.
So, a large segment of the people griped and grumbled and held public demonstrations, ... but the Government had become insensitive to the concerns of a significant portion of the populace.
Eventually, their collective frustration with an arrogant and dismissive Government, ... lead to open violence, and War.
Over the next Century, more situations arose, where frustration with a Government that grew steadily larger and less in-tune with the entire populace, lead to large scale demonstrations, ... and violence.
Armed disputes over labor organization, ... draft riots, ... race riots, ... and anti-War demonstrations, ... spring immediately to mind.
Sometimes, these sort of situations have been diffused, ... by intelligent Statesmen, ... who put the good of the Country, ahead of their personal Political Agenda.
But not always.
Today, ... the bloated, arrogant Government, doesn't want to hear the opinions of the "little people", ... and the President is h*ll bent on imposing his increasingly unpopular, personal Political Agenda, on a disillusioned populace.
He's forgotten who he works for .....
And I find this to be a very worrisome state of affairs ..........

Bryce, how kind of you to finally explain your viewpoints,. Instead of just sitting back and sniping, you finally have advanced a viewpoint. Now, why the h#ll don't you back up your a$$hole comment with a few facts.
You, too, are an elitist who just can't stand to see anyone except your candidate win. If someone else is elected, you just pass it off as the stupidity of the electorate. You just can't bear to face up to being completely out of phase with current feelings.
From what I have seen on this board, you have yet to express an original opinion. You just love to jump in now and then with a jab. Your posts kind of reminds me of a fly buzzing around you. It isn't going to hurt you but it is an annoyance. No substance but a lot of ooo
Why don't you expound a bit on your comment. The post I responded to suggested the American voter base wasn't competent to elect a President. Why don't you give me a few points on why the election wasn't valid. Guess what! The citizens in this country elect Presidents. Of course, all bets are off if you have the Supreme Court in your pocket to change the outcome.
I know you don't hold degreed Engineers in high regard. Probably, this is due to the fact we like to deal with facts rather than warm, cozy feelings. However, we do have backbones. I'm very sorry that you don't share that characteristic. jjj

As an amateur Historian, I'm particularly aware....
In your case, I think definition point 3 tells us all that we need to know. If not that, comment 2 is also particularly appropriate!ama·teur (am′ə c̸hər, -c̸ho̵or′; -ə tʉr′, -ə tər)
noun
1.a person who engages in some art, science, sport, etc. for the pleasure of it rather than for money; a nonprofessional; specif., an athlete who is variously forbidden by rule to profit from athletic activity
2.a person who does something without professional skill
3.a person who is somewhat unskillful

Fortunately for me, it takes very little "skill" to look at our history, and see that certain occurrences often follow a recognizable pattern.
Since you seem to be impressed by "professionalism" lets "troubleshoot" this same set of indications.
Let's say an operator of a CNC Machining Center, tells us that the cross feed on the work table, occasionally over-travels, causing the cutter head to "crash" into the work-holding fixture.
He's complained about this problem to his Supervisor, ... but the Supervisor, for whatever reason, doesn't take immediate action.
Every time the machine "crashes", the operator incurs "down time", which prevents him from making his piece-work quota, ... thus costing him his "bonus" rate for the entire shift.
This frustrates him greatly, and he discusses this issue with the operators from the other shifts.
They all, in turn, complain to their Union Stewards, who bring the matter up at the daily "Production Meeting".
The Plant Manager refers the problem with the machine, to the Maintenance Supervisor, ... who calls the Shift Superintendent, to see when he can have the machine "down" for a period of time, in order for the Technician to check it out.
The Shift Superintendent tells the Maintenance Supervisor, that he can't spare that machine, because it's already behind schedule, due to it's repeated crashing .....
Classic "Catch 22" scenario.
So, nothing is done to correct the problem with the machine, and the operators suffer a daily loss of "bonus" earnings, ... and the Company suffers a daily loss of productivity, while simultaneously incurring excessive tooling costs, due to all the "wrecked" cutters.
Meanwhile, the Customers order is falling behind schedule, ... and the Salesman is about to lose his commission on future orders.
At this point, everybody is pretty damned unhappy, and fingers are being pointed in all directions .....
And it's my studied PROFESSIONAL OPINION, ( for which I am handsomely compensated :D ) that some day soon, ... there's going to be one h*ll of a big fight.
And anybody who's got sense enough to pour pi$$ out of a boot, ... can see it coming.

Correct. And in my humble opinion it will start with the bloated over compensated labor unions that Barry Boy is so hell bent on coddling. Reminds me of the serpent handlers in the hills of West Virginia, sooner or later the damn things turn on you and you get bit. The unions will be the first ones to take to the streets when they’re entitled way of life is no longer viable.

Lester, quite frankly, I am too busy at work to spend the time to spell out what most everybody else got. I am confident in my beliefs and don't need affirmation from you or anybody else. Your little excert from the Declaration addressed the need for a government, not the shallowness of the electorate, which was what SB was talking about. Valid election? Of course it was valid.....I'm glad Obama got in......the memory of Jimmy Carter was fading in the collective memory of America....and I thought McCain was a poor alternative. Millions of folks are now educated about "words vs actions". Engineers....facts.....I have no ill feelings towards either. Many engineers tend to become obsessed with data/information/facts/statistics and let their human interaction skills lapse( what few they had)....which is why it's often hard to find an engineer that will make a good manager of people.Engineers are a dime a dozen, an engineer that can relate to others outside a calculator or computer and can motivate people is worth their weight in gold. What I do hold in disdain are those that feel the need to put the word "degreed" in front of the term engineer......a little redundant perhaps? Incidentally, there are many self taught "engineers" that I would trust far more than some of the "degreed" ones I encounter.
Smoothbore54
there are many self taught "engineers" that I would trust far more than some of the "degreed" ones I encounter.Around here, we call them "Boot-Strap Engineers", ... and I've learned a sight more from working with them, than I ever did in an Academic environment.
For many years I belonged to the "Rough & Tumble Engineers, Historical Society", located near Kinzers, Pa.
And picked up VOLUMES of otherwise unavailable, esoteric information about Steam Engines, from the "Old Timers" of that organization.
Currently, ... for my own amusement, ... I'm piecing together a Forge, and Blacksmith Shop.
And believe me, ... the more I learn about the techniques and accomplishments of those Smiths who worked in the period prior to the Industrial Revolution, ... the more reticent I become, about my own, very humble accomplishments. :|
