View Full Version : The pain of boat ownership.

Dog Daze
For almost 2 weeks I have spent every available hour working on the 34 ftr. We pulled the boat out of the water and scraped until I couldn't raise my arms anymore. Then she got a fresh coat of paint on the bottom. I also replaced all the zincs on the shafts, rudders, and trim tabs. The outriggers got restrung, and a broken cable in the outrigger support was replaced. The fuel filters (5) were changed out. A broken seat back support was fixed. 4 new batteries to the tune of $370 were installed. The raw water wash down is now working and a new auto pilot is in and tracking (takes a while to dial em in) to 1 degree. Today I washed out the engine compartment and toped off the oil and antifreeze. She looks and runs like a girl 20 yrs younger than she is. I AM DONE AND READY FOR FEESHIN SEASON!! Let the blood flow on the decks.

The Magician will probably have a lot of carnage on the deck this season. Maybe you'll finally get to like the taste of feesh and forget that damned BBQ:P

I really miss The Shoal trips (on The Dog Daze) - maybe it's a good thing the stripers have moved?

I sure miss OI myself. And if the striper had come down this winter I would have found the time for a road trip  with the old Dog Daze. Hearing reports of Yellowfin off Hatteras now, might do a water road trip in the Magician for a weekend and see if they can be found.

I AM DONE AND READY FOR FEESHIN SEASON!!I'm glad you think that it's possible to be "DONE" with routine maintenance .....

Enjoy that delusion for as long as you can. :D

I think the real satisfaction, comes from knowing your vessel is as seaworthy as it has ever been.

Sadly, ... one of the essential components of the Miss Anne Thrope, cannot be restored to it's previous state.

The deterioration of her Skipper, ... is irreversible ..... :|

SB, I am not deluded :p I know it's a constant struggle. It does feel good shes in tip/top shape. For my boat anyway, the engines are fresh (knocking on wood!!!!) and it's the little nagging things that drive me nuts. As long as we dont have a major engine meltdown I can keep up with the little stuff.

If you ever need a crank-turner... or a "mate" who works for free... you have the phone numbers and email !

Just holler.

Dog Daze
Pesky, expect a call about the 3rd or 4th week of April. Them Mahi should be in by then.

And another thing .....

Boat maintenance isn't really painful, ... exactly .....

..... it's more of an S&M thing. :D
