Does a nice photo-op on the Island and retreats to Nags Head.

Always the Bridesmaid, never the Bride.

....Just once I want to be around when that clown is pulling his stunts. I want to ask him when it became cool to "sell" the weather.........

OT is going to have speckled trout on his front porch again Thursday morning. Everybody hang tough, looks like other than the northwester flood we might actually be let off the hook a little, plenty of prep time.

flathead
I'll betcha OT has a set in the yard and pulls specks form it while wearing his waders before it gets too deep.Gonna have to see if he needs company for supper in a couple weeks :D Could even be a big stew abrewin' :D

....But last year I had a 100 yard shot of 3 1/8" struck off in his yard after Alex.........

Unfortunately, he fished down it before I got there......He said there wasn't anything in it..................

Everyone be safe.....................................

Alex tought me one lesson.Don't leave my back chain link fence up.I had every thing that came across the pam sound in my yard after it.This time I am hopening it will go right through and across the marsh to some body else. There was 15 big dump truck loads of dead salt marsh and junk hauled out of my yard after Alex.I did have two els mixed with the grass on my front poarch.

BaitWaster
Leon- sounds like an old salt like you can still learn a thing or two. ;) Be safe. I'm hoping this storm petter out will somehow head inland and bring us some rain.

Man, i wanted to start this thread. I saw that Bone-Head on the TV this morning and new the worst was coming true.

Ted, if you see him, smack him in the head for me.

All this time Croaker's Mom thought I was attracting the hurricanes.

No, BadNews... that's my cousin Nancy...

I swear that girl has not been on this island more than 15 minutes in the last 10 years before there's a mandatory evacuation. They come... they unpack... they pack... they leave.

You'd think after all this time they'd vacation in the grand canyon, but something keeps bringin' 'em back.

The last time they were here was about 15 minutes before the place got evacuated for Isabel. I've got to find that Acme Hurricane Magnet she carries with her and get it shot into Jupiter Orbit - I don't know where she got it, but that sumbitch works!

I'd tell her to come in December, but I don't think the Bonner could take another barge at the moment...

;)

It was split about 50/50.

Half the people wanted to rebook for next year. The other half wondered if they shouldn't try for a different week next year. They were a lot of guests who went thru this in Isabel.

I am happy to report that only guest really went over the edge. She told me that if rte 12 wasn't torn apart after the storm, she was gonna be real pissed off. How dare we charge her 2 grand for a weeks vacation and demand she leave after 2 days.

I resisted the impulse to rejoin with: The bright spot in my day Mam is that even though I may not be here tomorrow, I will not have to deal with your attitude.

Dog Daze
if your gonna book in late August-Sept you should buy the hurricane insurance. We don't have that problem during striper season. :p

RT
That's why we do our two weeks as soon as the kids are out of school in June, and then come back the week of Thanksgiving and the week after Christmas. Haven't had to leave for a hurricane yet....

GK... Having had to bail out and lose several weeks worth of rent over the years, I DO have to sympathize a little with that woman....we generally take the insurance in August and September now...

Never really could understand the justification though of just saying oops .. craps maam.. sorry you lose.. and pissing off loyal customers.
I always believed that the Realty companies imposed this concept to ensure profits at the expense of the customers...Wouldn't 'loss of rental income' be covered under the insurance of the house owner.. if so, then it IS the realty company that stands to lose...and makes more money by selling insurance or keeping rental money. :(

Could be I am just ignorant in these things.. but having rented nearly every year since 1967.. whole thing still rubs me the wrong way..GK perhaps you can enlighten us..

Hope I don't have nearly that much stuff. Thanks though. Stop by and have a beer when you get down.

I think it goes something like this:

Rental company books the house and makes money for both them and the home owner. If the guest leaves early - too bad. The guest has the option to buy the rental insurance - from an "insurance company", not the "rental company".

It's in the best interest of the rental company to rent the house. It's in the best interest of the guest to cover his ass.

Spoke to many, many guests yesterday as they were leaving. The vast majority were well aware why they were being hustled out of town and wished us residents well. The 65 bucks or so was money well spent during hurricane season and most I spoke with were also evacuated for Isabel and will return next year and hope for the best.

I spoke with one very nice man and wife from PA with two little boys in tow...

"How bad is it really going to be"?

"Oh... I don't know really... probably not too bad, but you see that sound out there?... If that water comes up in here, the best place for those two little boys is far, far away from here, don't you think"?

"Yea, that's what we think too... we're going to Kings Dominion for a couple of days and go see some places we never would have seen if we were here. We love it here and we'll be back."

He wished us all the best and said he hoped to see us all next year.

Of course we had a couple of bitter assholes, but they were in the minority. There's always an asshole around to spoil your day and those people I wish would stay - get the **** scared out of them, see and speak with God for about 6 hours and be converted into the nicest people you'd ever want to meet.

No such luck... they left bitching and complaining and will remain assholes. Takes all kinds to make the world go around I guess...

..........That cashes checks now from a "Rental Company".........Where was my pro commercial love?????????? :P

Hunker down buddy, and if it starts to get deep, over 200 beers in the 300 qt igloo in the shop, drive that old bat on up here..................

Mo ~

Now a truly enterprising young man with your talents should easily be able to capitalize on her, shall we refer to them as "assets."

1.) Make book in Vegas - soon as she lets you know she's coming, set a line and clean up!

2.) Did I read somewhere in this thread about - "Hurricane Insurance?"

The home owner doesn't get lost rent through homeowners insurance. After Izzy, we were going to give refunds for the two weeks that renters lost (less the rental co's portion) if they didn't have the insurance. Our rental co advised against it since the insurance is cheap. Fortunately, both our renters had purchased it so it never became an issue.

Croaker's Mom
Guess I'm lucky, my guest all chose to leave the day before the evacuation order was given, and none of them ask for their money back either. In fact the one person was surprised that we gave it back.... :)
